Summer months mean we shift into new gears, but also take a well-deserved break 🙂
Locarno Film Festival
In early August, Danielle and Amy made their first visit with IMPACT to the Locarno Film Festival.
Participating in the festival’s StepIN workshop on the future of the film industry alongside Neon, Paramount and many other global industry leaders, they led a cross-disciplinary roundtable on social impact and gender equality, which brought up and considered a range of issues and potential solutions, including one proposal of quotas to redress imbalances.
They also supported Outlyer at a special performance by Emmanuel Kelly. In dramatic fashion, the performance was interrupted by heavy rain and wind, but unwavering, Emmanuel carried on the concert in a tent surrounded by the crowd (see photo!).
Emmanuel also joined a panel discussion on disability access moderated by Danielle. This also featured Brazilian actor Giovanni Venturini, whose film won one of the coveted Pardo awards.
A final discussion panel on film financing raised, unsurprisingly, the ever-controversial topic of NFTs. Read about our thoughts on NFTs and their impact potential here.
Sarajevo Film Festival
In another first for Think-Film, Danielle participated by invitation in Sarajevo Film Festival, where she spoke about Think Film’s work and vision for a film industry inspired from top to bottom by social impact, and suggested new and creative avenues for production funding empowered by impact.
Think-Film was also incredibly proud to support the world premiere of “Too Close”, and facilitate a powerful impact meeting for film protagonists Andrea and Pirko with UNICEF Romania. This provided them with a safe space to voice their experiences of child sexual abuse and seek support for further project amplification and impact.
NAVALNY
Slightly out of order, we’re finally officially announcing our partnership with HBO Max and CNN Films’ “Navalny”. This thrilling documentary which uncovers the truth behind Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny’s poisoning and gives exclusive insight to his vision for the future of a democratic Russia has only been heightened in importance by subsequent world events and revelations about his treatment in detention. We’re honoured to help it reach audiences who can drive forward press freedom protections and to have supported key screenings at The Hague and in Berlin, for the OPCW and on the 2nd anniversary of the poisoning. Major events are happening with the film throughout the autumn, so please do join us in one of our European city locations.
Team Holiday Times!
If you’ve been following these newsletters you’ll know that we’ve really been non-stop this year! The team all took some well-earned time out over the summer to rest and regroup: Thomas spent time in Valencia refreshing his Spanish language ability, Yik Kei explored the museums and palaces of Turin, Amy visited the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to enjoy some comedy and Danielle rested with her family on a beach in Croatia. A good time was had by all!
Our autumn calendar is already so full, so follow us on twitter, insta and fb @thinkfilmimpact, come to a screening event, tell your friends and family about our films that are soon-to-be-released and as always #thinkimpact!
