Oscar-nominated and Venice Silver Lion winner IO CAPITANO tells the story of two Senegalese teenagers who leave Dakar to travel to Europe where they believe opportunities and fame await. On a journey neither could have imagined, the boys face the dangers and the beauty of the desert, the shock of detention centres in Libya, and the perils of the sea in their pursuit of a better life.
As the recipient of the first-ever Venice’s Collateral Impact Award, IO CAPITANO received Think-Film’s support to curate an impact campaign to inspire a more compassionate and human-rights-based approach to migration policies.
Impact Highlights include:
- UK House of Lords event, co-hosted with the APPG on Refugees and featuring clips from Io Capitano, called on the UK Government to Reject the Rwanda Bill, with high-profile influencers and policymakers including Lord Alf Dubs, Lady Frances Dsouza, Nish Kumar, Rufus Jones, Youssef Kerkour and Jamael Westman.
- Europe and UK social media impact campaign, connecting the film to the controversial Rwanda Bill and EU Migration Pact and leveraging the high-visibility moment to attract new audiences.
