Io Capitano tells the story of two Senegalese teenagers who leave Dakar to travel to Europe where they believe opportunities and fame await. On a journey neither could have imagined, the boys face the dangers and the beauty of the desert, the shock of detention centres in Libya, and the perils of the sea in their pursuit of a better life.
Think-Film’s impact campaign for this Venice Film Festival Silver Lion & Collateral Impact Award winner engaged 300+ stakeholders to push for safety, compassion and human rights to be prioritised in refugee and migration law and policy.
- Leading British screen and stage talent including Rufus Jones (“W1A”, “Paddington”), Nish Kumar (“The News Quiz”, “The Mash Report”) and Jamael Westman (“Hamilton” – First West End Cast) joined a UK Houses of Parliament impact roundtable event with Lord Alf Dubs, Baroness Jenny Jones, and leading NGOs, which represented an urgent moment of solidarity against a controversial proposal to send refugees to Rwanda.
- A special dedicated episode of news and comedy podcast Pod Save The UK (70k+ subscribers) mobilised mass social media, delivering key marketing support and attracting new audiences for the UK theatrical release.
- AMPAS and Venice Jury member Misan Sagay participated in an International Organisation for Migration (IOM) screening in Geneva, and personally hosted several screenings which garnered influential film support, including from Morgan Freeman, for the film’s eventual Academy Award Best International Feature nomination.
