Inspired by a shocking true story, Dark Waters follows corporate defense attorney Robert Bilott as he pursues a class action suit representing around 70,000 people living near a chemical plant that allegedly contaminated drinking water with PFOA, a toxic forever chemical linked to a number of illnesses, including some types of cancer.
Think-Film launched a high-powered campaign, ahead of the film’s UK and European theatrical release, to rally European political leadership to a full EU PFAS ban and phase-out commitment and make powerful retailers pledge to stop using forever chemicals in their products.
Impact Highlights include:
- Mark Ruffalo, Robert Bilott, Todd Haynes in the European Parliament for a dynamic event, attended by over 200 policymakers, industry representatives, NGOs and journalist, placing DARK WATERS at the centre of ongoing EU conversations on how to restrict and end PFAS manufacture and use.
- Closed-door meeting between Mark Ruffalo, Rob Bilott and Todd Haynes with European Parliament President David Sassoli, linking the film’s PFAS phase-out call to the European Green New Deal and circular economy.
- In partnership with Chemsec, we initiated a corporate pledge to phase out PFAs from their manufacturing and use. To date more than 110 businesses, including major brands such as H&M and Ralph Lauren, have signed the pledge.
