As ever, a busy couple of months at Think-Film! In quick-form, here’s what we’ve been up to.
FESTIVALS
We met the wonderful people of ESODOC 2021 again in Vilnius in October, teaching the group about impact value and impact measurement, and experimenting with Mark Atkin for a fun and successful first edition of ‘Documentary Tinder’….yes, we know you’re curious!
Sharing our TFIP vision wider, our Executive Director Danielle also supported projects pitching at Silbersalz in September and gave masterclasses on the power of socio-political impact for the International Association of Film and Television Schools (CILECT) and Sanfic Santiago Film Festival in October. Thanks to everyone who participated in these; it’s always inspiring to see the film community eager to bring art and impact together to make a difference.
FILMS
HOW TO SAVE A DEAD FRIEND
In early September, in partnership with the European Consortium for Arts Therapy Education (ECArTE) and inspired by the documentary “How To Save a Dead Friend”, we launched an innovative initiative that will give arts therapy professionals new freedom to use their qualifications across all three Baltic States.
THE SCARS OF ALI BOULALA
Taking this initiative further, we had an incredible avant-première screening of “The Scars of Ali Boulala” in Brussels in October, with a moving and powerful panel discussion on mental health supported by ECArTE and featuring Ali Boulala himself alongside ‘KeepAppy’ Founder Aimee-Louise Carton and Euro Youth Mental Health representative Alejandra Piot.
Frédérique Ries MEP gave a powerful pre-filmed intervention to honour Ali’s story and relay the Renew Europe call for a European Strategy on Mental Health, and followed up the screening by submitting a formal question to the European Commission asking whether and how they will integrate arts therapy into mental health policy. We’ll let you know when we receive a response!
Film producers Sisyfos also organised a Skateout event in Stockholm in October supported by #HalfTheStory to mark the official trailer release – check it out, we cannot wait for you all to see the film in full when it releases next year.
SEVEN GRAMS
We’re proud to have supported the journey of new AR mobile app SEVEN GRAMS which brings home the devastating reality of modern slavery and child labour in everyday technology supply chains – download the app in selected countries here.
DARK WATERS
The European Union has taken another step forward in protecting us from toxic forever chemicals as the Commission adopted new limits for PFOA chemicals in waste, and over 50 companies have now committed to remove all PFAS from their supply chains. If you haven’t already seen it, watch the film on Amazon and Netflix now.
MUNNI / OUR DAUGHTERS
We were delighted to support the filmmaking team behind MUNNI (now working title OUR DAUGHTERS) with impact strategy development and coaching as they won the Think-Film Impact Award at the Cannes Docs Marché du Film. This beautiful project is really special, we definitely encourage you to watch out for it!
SPOTIFY @ COP26
We are so excited to share that we will be in Glasgow next week for COP26 partnering with Spotify to run a new climate action studio! Podcast-style conversations will be live on Spotify’s Greenroom platform between 8th-12th November with artists, influencers, politicians, youth activists and experts giving behind-the-scenes insight into what’s being spoken about at COP and what audiences everywhere need to know to join the fight for change.
Don’t miss out! Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @thinkfilmimpact and we’ll give you all the info on how to catch the conversations 🙂
